Beijing, as China’s capital, deserves to be a famous historical and cultural city, where skillful craftsmen have devoted themselves to building this cosmopolitan city into a mix of ancient and modern. Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA) was formerly known as Capital Primary Industrial School established by the Qing Dynasty Government in 1907. It now has two campuses - Xicheng and Daxing. Xicheng Campus is located at the capital’s core functional area adjacent to Xizhimen, covering an area of 120,000 m2. With its long history and rich cultural deposits, it is our platform where we focus on high-level graduate education, advanced innovation and scientific research. Daxing Campus is situated along the Yongding River in southwest Beijing, covering an area of 500,000 m2. With beautiful campus scenery and advanced teaching facilities, it focuses on educating top-quality undergraduates.

BUCEA now has over 1000 faculty and staff members, including 664 full-time faculty members, over 400 professors and associate professors and 46 doctoral supervisors.

With over 70,000 outstanding alumni, the university has a total of 10,845 enrolled students, including 7,713 full-time undergraduates, 2,234 graduate students, 766 adult education students, and 132 international students.

With the largest collection of architectural books in China, the university library was co-established with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Jointly sponsored by the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, BUCEA has 10 schools and offers 40 undergraduate programs in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environment, Surveying and Mapping, Electrics, Mechanics, Management, Law, and Science, etc.,

As a doctoral degree granting institution approved by the Ministry of Education of China, BUCEA has 2 first-class-discipline doctoral degree programs in Architecture and Civil Engineering, one doctoral program in “Architectural Heritage Protection”, 2 post-doctoral research stations, 14 first-class-discipline master’s degree programs, one cross-disciplinary master’s degree program, and 10 professional master’s degree programs.

Taking advantage of its distinctive strengths in such featured specialties as Architectural Heritage Protection, New System of Engineering Structure, Underground Engineering, Sponge City, and Modern Urban Surveying and Mapping, BUCEA now boasts 26 ministerial- and provincial-level laboratories, 13 teaching bases above the ministerial- and provincial-level, and the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Future Urban Design. In the past years, the university has won many prizes, including the first prize of National Teaching Achievement Award, the first and the second prizes of the National Progress Prize in Science and Technology, the National Technical Invention Award, and so on. The Engineering Practice Innovation Center is a national innovative experimental zone for practice-oriented talent development in the field of architecture and construction.

BUCEA has greatly strengthened its international exchange and cooperation capabilities. Through partnerships with 94 famous universities and research institutions across 42 countries and regions, the university has proposed the initiative of establishing the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC) in October 2017. Based on the BRAUIC, the university focuses on fostering exchanges and cooperation and resource-sharing among Belt and Road architectural universities, to explore the system of developing architecture and construction talents, and mutual recognition of credits, and promote innovation-based collaborative research and commercialization of research outcomes, so as to serve the development of Belt and Road countries and the Eurasian region. The Sino-French Training Center for Energy Related Professions has cultivated a huge number of outstanding talents with European engineering education background.
