Shanghai Michelin Tire Co., Ltd. Steel Wire Factory, as SWR,
is one of the Michelin Group's steel cord production plants.
It is located at No. 129, Tieshan Road, Baoshan District, in the north of Shanghai,
Covering an area of about 80,000 M2.
The headcount is about 210, with 35% of female.
The main products of the factory are steel cord, bead wire and wire drawing dies for the steel cord making.
All the products are consumed within Michelin Group,
and more than 50% are exported to the other Michelin plants worldwide.
On 1st of April 2001, SWR officially joined the Michelin
and became the “Shanghai Michelin Warrior Tire Co., Ltd.”, Steel cord factory.
In 2003, the factory started to produce with Michelin standard process.
In 2005, the factory products structure was formed, with the capacity of 21,000 tons per year of steel cord and bead wire, and 2 million pieces of drawing dies per year.
In 2010, the Michelin Group 100% took over the company and the factory was renamed as “Shanghai Michelin Tire Co., Ltd.”, Steel cord factory.
In 2018, the factory was certified by the Michelin Group as an advanced empowerment unit which had successfully passed the OR2 stage.
In 1946, with the revolutionary invention of the first radial tire by Michelin Group,
the importance of “Renfort metallic” technology in tires has become more and more apparent.
Steel cords are not only a technical support for the strength, life, stability and grip of the tires,
but also provide a higher level of safety and technical guarantee for the wear resistance, safety and durability of tires.
The proportion of steel cord in a tire is about 18%-25%.

The main production processes include dry drawing,
heat treatment,
copper coating,
wet drawing
and cabling.
In order to ensure the excellent quality of the tires,
we pay great attention to the characteristics of adhesion, strength and weight of the steel cord.
