Today's thriving College of Electro-Optics has been built on a solid foundation. The College consists of five departments, two institutes and an experimental teaching center of Electronic Information.

The Department of Electronic Science and Engineering is one of the earliest to research and teach Electronic Science in China. Including New Micro-nano Electronic Functional Materials and Devices, New Energy Materials and Systems.

In 2011, the Department of Microelectronics Engineering was rated as a national-level major. Carrying research on the design of New Micro-nano Semiconductor Devices and Integrated Circuits.

In 2017, the Department of Electronic Information Engineering was approved as a major and applied major construction project for Tianjin. Carrying out research on Information Processing, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning.

The Department of Communications Engineering is established on Radio Physics of the former Department of Electronic Science. Research includes Wireless Communication Technology, Mobile Communication, Satellite Communication, Multimedia Communication, Communication Network and Computer Network Technology.

Photoelectric Information Science and Engineering of Department of Optoelectronics Technology Science was established in 2003 by Nankai University and Tianjin University based on the independent education and cooperation of the Ministry of Education.

The Institute of Modern Optics was founded by former President of Nankai University, Academician Guoguang Mu. A well-known research and teaching base of Optical Engineering in China. Research includes New Optical Technologies and Methods that break through the limit of traditional time and space scales under Femtosecond Ultrafast, Micro-nano Scale and Terahertz new frequency band.

The Institute of Optoelectronic Thin Film Devices and Technology is a well-known research base of photovoltaic solar cell technology in China, researching on Solar cells, solar fuels, Flexible Nerve sensors and New Light-emitting devices with a platform for preparation and characterization of New Photovoltaic Materials and Devices, and Solar fuels.

The Electronic Information Experimental Teaching Center undertakes experimental teaching of Electronic Information for students. Strongly supporting students' extracurricular technological innovation, open experiments, and subject competitions. The Center has established joint laboratories with many well-known enterprises, and students have made great achievements in the National College Students' Electronic Design Competition.
