On March 1, 2017, the first round table presentation of Art for Peace was grandly initiated in the Senate in Paris. The conference room was crowded with scholars and artists from diverse cultural, art and academic fields in the world. They had a common expectation of a meeting of minds between a widely known politician in the western world, and an artist enjoying a high reputation in the international artistic circle.
Lech Walesa, the former President of Poland, was not only an influential man riding the whirlwind in political and social circles of Europe in the 1980s, but also awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983. The man sitting opposite to him was Lin Xiangxiong, an artist and cultural celebrity from the East and personally promoting the concept of "Art for Peace" in both the East and the West.
Lech Walesa talked from the institutional structure of political doctrine to the society, economy and the people. His propositions and ideas used to exert direct and indirect influences on the end of "NATO Cold War", the collapse of Berlin wall and the birth of the European Union. He said that culture, art and artists play extremely important roles in the history of mankind, and also facilitate the progress of human civilization like a moon-like image in harmony with nature.
Since the 1980s, Lin Xiangxiong, a humanist artist, laid emphasis on social realities to depict and castigate social injustice and darkness, curse grievous wars, object to environmental contamination for the sake of interests that may jeopardize the later generations. In this way, he revealed the majority lingering on the edges and fighting for life, and criticized various social evils of the era. In his opinions, better balance and mutual understanding between people can only be achieved through cultural exchanges, which further eliminates confrontation and wars incurred by incomprehension. He called on all human beings to practically facilitate a movement of turning against the war, constructing the peace, bridging the gap, eliminating the poverty and stopping the pollution.
A leader of the worker's movement and politician from the western world, and an artist and intellectual from the Eastern world stood together on the platform of the Senate in Paris. They encouraged each other and described different cultures and traditions in the East and the West first. Like all roads lead to Rome, they eventually focused on the core argument of "Art for Peace". Lin Xiangxiong started painting impromptu on scene. As the co-authors, they named the paint as "Peace".
On 6th August 2017, the first World Humanity Conference organized by the CIPSH of UNESCO and the World Humanities Conference Foundation was held in Liège, an eastern city of Belgium. During this week, more than 1,800 scholars, politicians, entrepreneurs and artists from all around the world made a discussion about how to deal with the challenge of the humanities. During this global conference, Lin Xiangxiong was not only invited to give the opening speech, but also gave a keynote speech entitled to A Brief Introduction to Humans and Civilization during the main session. Lin Xiangxiong reviewed the development process of mankind's civilization, and analyzed cultural differences between the East and the West together with deep causes for the conflict of civilization. Lin Xiangxiong shared the Eastern wisdom in his speech, and was praised by the Western scholars through his knowledgeable and insightful words.
Civilizations have become richer and more colorful with exchanges and mutual learning. Such exchanges and mutual learning are important driving forces for the progress of civilization and the peace of world. Through cultural activities that go beyond the nations, times and civilizations, the idea of peace will grow up in people’s mind around the world. And provide the planet we share with more and more forests of peace. That's the responsibility and mission for Lin Xiangxiong to devotes himself in the artistic and cultural creation.
Since the completion of Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery, it will act as an international cultural and art exchange platform for Dialogue of Civilizations and Art for Peace, building a context where all human beings live and coexist in harmony and peace.
